In the SE cave you should have lava waterfalls, obsidian all over the place and maybe even steam vents. You can have a thematic natural cave system like a lava cavern or a frozen cave, but you need every element of the cave to play into that. I think that all the caves on the island need to be thematically interesting like the ones on Scorched Earth. Also, if you don't intend to have a dino be able to enter a certain portion of the cave or enter the cave at all, make it graphically representative of that.
Having a ledge where a saber leap is necessary to cross would be awesome, but make the consequences of missing that leap pretty serious. It's cool if dinos are intended to be used in a cave, but make sure the difficulty and potential risk involved is appropriate. You can even hatch a ptera egg in the NE cave and farm it without risk at your leisure. Using a Ptera on the SE cave trivializes the whole deal.
Lastly, the caves need to be re-evaluated on what dinos you guys feel should enter the cave and be able to operate. This has the undesirable effect of also blocking cave loot from spawning. I've seen the SE lava cave completely nullified in difficulty because people built ceilings/pillars/foundations throughout it to navigate easier. It has been a while since I tried building in one of the main caves, but i would honestly submit that caves should have building be off-limits. I am sure the rest of the caves have similar issues with foundations causing unintended effects. Building on top of the cliff above the NW cave should in no way interfere with the cave drops. Secondly, please take a look at unintentional cave blocking. Maybe make the drops further in more profitable than the ones at the entrance. The cave drops should also be evaluated on their quality. It completely shuts down that cave as a farm-able location until a reset.
Having them bug inside walls (this is notorious with the NW cave) is awful. If you've got images/videos, hell even a paint-drawing you'd like to share, don't hesitate to.įirst and foremost, please make all the cave drops retrievable. They'll be keeping an eye on this thread, and some others to see what you guys have to say. Let them know what you like and would like to see more of, what you're not so keen on and something you think they should consider. If you've yet to explore the caves, you can head over to the Wiki to find pretty specific coordinates and begin your expedition! Ideally, they're looking for the most feedback in regards to these caves: They wanted to hear your thoughts on the current caves we have on the Island, both above ground and underwater caves. Our Level Designers are currently working through bringing some of our older caves up to scratch.
